The Province of Bahia ministers in several areas in formal education field, two high schools as well as Anônio Vieira, also through the maintenance and/or assistance of Popular Schools, that the Jesuits for many years have founded and attempted to assist the appeals of those who are very much lacking the
necessities of a just social reality, for example, the Mangueira Social Center, Schools of OAF and of the Seeds of the Tomorrow Social Center.

Antonio Vieira High SchoolThe College of Antônio Vieira
founded by the Portuguese Mission in 1912, then was passed on to the Mission of
Veneto-Milan Province in 1952. This school has three shifts of classes: morning, afternoon, and night. It is the largest Jesuit high school in Brazil
and it is one of the most important works of the Province of Bahia given its import in the role it plays in the educational sector of Bahia.

The Center of Study and Social Action (CEAS) founded by Society of Jesus in 1967. It is tied into the Society of Jesus, integrated by Jesuits and lay professionals. The Center is inspired by the human and evangelical values of justice and solidarity, looking to contribute to end both poverty and segregation. The CEAS publishes a bimonthly magazine, the Journal of CEAS, that has as its objective the presentation, analysis, and commentary on the Brazilian reality, denouncing forms of oppression and social inequalities. Because of the social situation in the North Coast (poor lands, without
electricity, water, education, health, and regular fixed work) in March of 1982 was created the, Foundation for the Development of the Craft for Fishing Communities !FUNDIPESCA). FUNDIPESCA has as its objective that creation of working conditions in close association with the fishermen, so as to end the problem of hunger in a humane and dignified way for the hard-working people on the North Coast.

OAFAnother work linked to the Society of Jesus in Bahia is the Organization of the Fraternal Aid, (OAF) that has as its objective the welcoming and education of children and adolescents in situations of personal and social risk, also the situation of single mothers in difficulties. OAF contributes to the process of human development, social and professional care
of the mothers, restoring their dignity and self-esteem.

In 1993 the Center of Pedagogical Assistance (CEAP) was created whose objective is the integral and continuous formation of teachers of basic education in a critical, political and transforming perspective. As support to the projects of teachers' formation developed by CEAP ten years ago was born the Journal of Education of CEAP.

Besides the works in the area of the education the Society of Jesus in Bahia maintains the Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Shrine of Fatima and the Church of St. Antonio of Barra where the Center of Ignatian Spirituality (CIES)
operates.
