First Letter
Message of Father Emílio Margo
Moreira on the occasion of the release of the Web Site of the Jesuits
in 1998.
According
to number 256 of the Complementary Norms of the Constitutions of the
Society of Jesus: "As we attempt to correspond to our current mission,
accordingly it was defined by the last General Congregations, our traditional
ministries, properly adapted at the current times, win new importance;
it is incumbent at the same time the search for new apostolatic ways
demanded by the new situations, in a way that this conjunction of media
contributes to strengthen the faith that does justice." And in
the no. 265 § 01: "The culture of dialogue should be a distinctive
characteristic of the Society, sending us into
the world to work for the greater glory of God and to help human persons."
Without any doubt the internet is a very appropriate medium for the
sharing of our search. And now we give thanks for any collaboration
that they will be sent
to us by men and women that take communion in the same ideal of mutual-help
in that universal vocation that commits us to be builders of the mission
of fraternity in peace and justice.
What I wish you, when entering on our site, it is that one's attentive
observation and listening can cross over to the immediacy as when one
speaks to the screen and, in simple curiosity of a child, look for something
more than the list of our activities, something more than the ideals
of the people who
carry them out, something deeper than one's motivations to navigate
on these bands... Also we desire to serve, I embrace you fraternally.
Fr. Emílio Margo Moreira, S.J.
Former Provincial of Bahia.
