Luís The Province always nourished the desire to develop a specific
pastoral directed toward young people. It already prepared two Jesuits
for this work, also sending them for specific courses also in this area.
The province always had one or other member directly involved and, sometimes,
this was
exclusively one's work. Also there always had been appeals both on the
part of the Jesuits and the Bishops, so that the Province insisted more
on this pastoral work.
In São Luís do Maranhão the Jesuits maintain the
Parish of Our
Lady of Mercies and they began by developing a pastoral outreach to the
young people. It is worth highlighting also in São Luís
Brother Julio's work.
He is over of ninety years old and helps at the chaplaincy of the Dutra
Hospital where he visits the patients of the Parish of Our Lady of Mercies.
